Dear Tribute, I'm not going to say that Mission Impossible:2 was not a well made movie. The special effects, the actors, the locations-it was all very, very impressive and exciting. But I'm sorry to say I still didn't like the movie for one very important reason: the fact that despite all the high technology, intelligent women were still degraded. For example, the remark Anthony Hopkin's character makes in regard to females and the fact that although Tom Cruise's character was in love with the Thandie Newton character, he went along with the assignment of getting her to sleep with the villain in order to save the world. I'm sorry, but if a woman must prostitute herself in order to save the world while the men get to play with high-tech toys, then the world's not worth saving. Janet McNabb Banff, Alberta Dear Tribute, I was recently reading your issue of Tribute with Rebecca Romijn-Stamos on the cover when I noticed a slight discrepancy in the Hollywood Hotline section. It pertained to Jude Law's wife Sadie Frost, whom I believe is best known for her role in Bram Stoker's Dracula, playing Lucy opposite Winona Ryder's Mina, not Interview With the Vampire, which I believe she was not in. Just wanted to let you know. Heather Windsor, Ontario Dear Tribute, Before you go around knocking someone's band, perhaps you should bother to check it out. I'm specifically referring to your July 2000 Tribute Magazine (Hollywood Hotline) comment regarding actor Russell Crowe's band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts. Have you even heard one of their CDs? Oh, and by the way, the CD that they are currently recording in Austin, Texas, isn't their first. In fact, the band has been in existence since 1984, long before Russell Crowe's acting career took off. And Mr. Crowe, who gave himself the musical stage name of Russ Le Roc at the age of 16, is by no means a novice in the music industry. His singing and songwriting style is truly original and refreshing to say the least. Mr. Crowe has a way of communicating his innermost passions and inner delicacy like no male performer has in a long time. You should read the words to my two favorite songs of his, "Wendy" and "Inside Her Eyes", then tell me this man doesn't know what it's like to be lonely and looking for the perfect love, one's soul mate. As for his style of music and his voice, they too are new, unnerving and certainly quite stirring to the body and mind. Johanne |
