Great Gatsby delay dashes Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar chances

By Tribute on August 7, 2012 | 9 Comments

It was just announced that the long-awaited adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel – The Great Gatsby – has been delayed from its promised Christmas day release to an unspecified summer 2013 date. Warner Bros. did not give specific reasons for the delay, however some sources are reporting that it’s being pushed back to allow more time to work on 3D effects and the soundtrack. This news is not only disappointing for fans, but it may be bad news for the stars – namely the two leads – Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. The two were believed to have had a shot at winning Best Actor and Best Actress for their roles in the film. Despite three nominations and countless outstanding performances, DiCaprio has yet to win an Oscar. Pushing the film to a summer 2013 release decreases DiCaprio’s Oscar chances — serious Oscar contenders are generally released in December. DiCaprio’s only hope for an Oscar this year will now be as Best Supporting Actor in Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained. ~Stacy Raivich

Seriously, Oscar talk BEFORE a movie even opens?

Well of course there is Oscar talk. This wasn’t an action flick. It’s a classic novel turned into a movie. Usually the only reason to sign on to a movie like that is the potential acclaim. We all know the major Oscar buzz movies are released at the end of each year so the performances are fresh in the minds of the voters.

Well, at least it gives a lot of people more time to read the book 🙂 JK, kind of. Its too bad though, since now Leo and Carey wont have a strong chance next year at the oscars, if the movie is well done. Hopefully Django Unchained does give him a chance though 🙂

Okay first of all they need to spot delaying all the good movies coming out. I was really stoked to see this cause The Great Gatsby is an awesome book and DiCaprio is awesome in everything he does. He really deserves an oscar. And this should not be in 3D… nobody even really likes 3D…
