James Cameron and several of the stars of the hit movie Avatar were on hand in Orlando, Florida for the opening of Pandora: The World of Avatar at the Animal Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World.
Situated on 12 acres of land, the park looks exactly as Cameron imagined it in his movie.
He commented following the opening ceremony, saying, “For me, it’s kind of surreal…. the process of doing the movie, we had to create it all digitally, so every blade of grass, every tree, every leaf, it was all created digitally, but it never really physically existed. But now, it’s been made physically manifest. You can touch it, you can smell it, you can walk through it. You can stay here and mediate on the beauty and the majesty of Pandora. You can even go ride a banshee and fly around through the floating mountains. It’s a pretty amazing place.”
He gave a shout out to his team at 20th Century Fox, saying, “Without their amazing and ongoing support of Avatar, none of this would have been possible.” He added that the incredible team of Disney “Imagineers” had “exceeded my wildest dreams of bringing Pandora to life.”
Also on hand were stars from the film, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver and Joel David Moore.
The park includes two rides: The Na’vi River Journey, which is a peaceful journey by boat along a dark river lit up by bio-luminescent flora and fauna, and Flight of Passage, which is a breathtaking immersive ride that simulates a flight on a banshee as you careen around the world of Pandora.
Pandora: The World of Avatar includes mountains, tropical greenery, luminescent plants and nature walkways, along with nature guides who can give you more details about the amazing qualities of the flora found on the planet.
Cameron is currently working on four Avatar sequels. The first one will hit theaters in 2020.
