Miley Cyrus sued for $4 billion

By Alexandra Heilbron on February 12, 2009 | 72 Comments

miley_cy.jpgMiley Cyrus is being sued for $4 billion by a Los Angeles woman named Lucie J. Kim after being accused of pulling a “racist pose” in a photograph. A leaked image surfaced last week, which showed the teen and several of her friends pulling their eyes into slants. Also in the photo was a young Asian male, but despite Cyrus’s initial apology, an Asian Pacific American group accused the teen of being racist and called her apology “inadequate.” Kim, who filed the lawsuit on Wednesday, claims to represent more than one million Asian Pacific Islanders in the L.A. area. She says the Hannah Montana star violated civil rights. On Tuesday Cyrus issued a second apology on her website saying, “I want to thank all of my fans for their support not only this week, but always! I really wanted to stress how sorry I am if the photo of me with my friends offended anyone. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful. I know everything is part of God’s ultimate plan, and mistakes happen so that eventually I will become the woman He aspires me to be. Peace and love, Miles.”

Yeah well, last time I checked, racism wasn’t illegal…if it were, gman would be serving a life sentence! LOL. I don’t know of one kid who has never pulled the skin around their eyes to make their eyes slant! If someone wants to pull their own damn skin, they can…and if people like Lucie J. Kim take it the wrong way then that’s their problem. Jeeze, people will do anything to try to make a buck off celebrities, won’t they? The judge is most likely going to laugh in Ms. Kim’s face and hopefully she ends up having to pay all the legal fees on both sides for her stupidity!

BLAME HANNA MONTANA! i don’t think she knows who she is most of the time ! LOL! PEOPLE need to chill hell out . that was not a racist move at all. everybody has done that at some point in there lives , i myself as a kid did it many times, yet Ive dated several Asian woman , and they thought it was funny. whats that line claims to represent more than one million Asian Pacific Islanders in the L.A. area.!!! OK then if she wins her suit, id like to see her share it with all the Asian Pacific Islanders in the L.A. area ! this is nothing but a cash grab from a very rich popular performer. having said that, this further proves my point about what i said about American teens on the harry potter (Daniel Radcliffe) story…..

  6. ke • February 12, 2009 @ 12:57 PM

i don’t think what she did was right because while i agree that kids do it all the time and is meant to just be a joke, it can still be offensive. i don;t blame the woman for taking the way she did. i do, however, think that suing the girl is way too much. there;s no need for that at all. you might as well sue every other person in the world because they have probably done at least in their life. and i still don;t think miley cyrus is a good role model. i;m much more appalled by the sexual photos that leaked a little way back. she;s not as ‘good’ as she sells herself to be.

  7. mandee • February 12, 2009 @ 2:27 PM

ok, well…first of all i think this is a pathetic attempt to get her name in the paper and to get rich for no apparent reason. kids will be kids, and no judge in their right mind is going to side with this lucie woman. second, i think any pictures miley takes or her friends take of her that end up on her myspace, or her facebook, or any other website that BELONGS to miley, is really no ones business but her friends that are on those sites. i get that she is a celeb, but she should still have some privacy growing up. and the pictures about her that SEEMED sexual…who cares? they were just pictures. can anyone really say when they were young they never pulled up their shirt and took pics of their belly? and i still fully believe that vanity fair made her do those other pictures, which i dont think were even that bad either, since all you could really see was her back. anyways, basically i just think this is dumb and childish. i think that if this woman DOES for some odd reason win, that miley should sue HER for 6 million for trying to ruin her reputation by accusing her of being racist…lets see lucie try to come up with the other 2 million on her own.

    she’s a christian… of course she is.
disney is one of the largest recruiters we have of the christian church today.

Someone send that girl Kim a book named “REALITY” ; followed up by a magazine called “GREED”. This whole thing is an express trip to crazy town!

Miley – you should have the freedom of being a teen ; and all the rights afforded to that.

  10. Nancy • February 12, 2009 @ 4:40 PM

  11. Kevin • February 12, 2009 @ 6:22 PM

PATHETIC thats all i can say to Lucie J. Kim. HAha if she only knew that billions of kids/teens do that!! like cmon have some dignity mileys only a kid, if she feels like taking a silly picture like that she can do so, and WTF? sue miley? are you people stupid, so im guessing this freakin lucie woman is going to sue me and my friends to? cause we all do it, its no ofence, its just a matter of joke, like cmon, all my asian friends think the whole miley cyrus thing is just stupid, shes just a kid, she should have the freedome to do it, like WTF? oh my this is all just pathetic, GET A LIFE [lucie j kim] and btw i just did the ee thing so GO AHEAD call the police !! lucie your pathetic. that is all 😀

  12. red neck • February 12, 2009 @ 7:22 PM

Asians should start wearing wife beater t shirts and drink beer and drive pick up trucks and get those nice farmers tan and send it to this hillbilly jr.

  13. Carol • February 12, 2009 @ 7:52 PM

You have got to be kidding!!! Now I think people in this world have truly nothing better to do with their time than to think up stupid things to do….. Ms. Kim needs to step back and take a look at the whole big picture of life and put things into perspective. Nobody died.

  14. Sanford • February 12, 2009 @ 11:14 PM

Hey, if she was actually being racist dont you think she would have stuck out her teeth and say “flied lice! Egg Row! cheekin bah wif sweensow saw!

  15. mandee • February 13, 2009 @ 2:59 AM

that was a lame joke :S

  16. demigod • February 13, 2009 @ 4:31 AM

The reason for the staggering sum is that this suit represents over a million Asian Pacific American group who were offended? Wouldn’t this so-called racism be offensive to ALL asians? Only in America.

  17. Nancy • February 13, 2009 @ 9:36 AM

Well, if she were to win this lawsuit and be awarded the $4 billion, I’m sure she would be totally surprised and her eyes would open wide….if that happens, I hope someone gets a picture…so I can sue HER for a “racist pose”!!! LMAO!

  18. Rastafari • February 13, 2009 @ 10:25 AM

Okay.. so you people are Jewish.

  19. tributegirl • February 13, 2009 @ 10:43 AM

I don’t think her “pose” had anything to do with Asians, it was just a bunch of kids making a funny face! Asians were probably the furthest thing from their minds, having some innocent fun was all they were doing! She shouldn’t have apologized, I certainly wouldn’t. It says she “voilated civil rights”? Wtf? Exactly what civil right is she talking about?
I honestly can’t stand Miley, but this is rediculous, and I hope it ends up costing Lucie a LOT of money!

  20. Minerva • February 13, 2009 @ 11:02 AM

Stretching her eyes is about as racist as anyone else who attempts to use chopsticks in a restaurant. Anyway, don’t they say that imitation is the best form of flattery? I get so sick of idiots screaming racism everytime they think they see there might be a buck to be made off of someone else. If she was racist, would there have been an Asian male in the photo with her? If anything, one could even say that stretching her eyes in the presence of another Asian was making a statement that says “we are all alike, or equal here”……a totally opposite attitude of what she’s being accused of. An apology should have been a more than adequate response for Kim if she chose to take offense but of course, it doesn’t fill anyone’s pockets. Accusers who lose law suits of this nature should be charged and prosecuted for attempting to live off the avails of others. Maybe it would put an end to this parasitic practice.

  21. sab • February 13, 2009 @ 11:11 AM

I have a problem with Miley Cyrus cause her fan base consists of thousands of little girls across the world. Although, its OK to make mistakes once in a while, there’s is a problem however when your a Disney Star Icon. I’ve seen way too many little girls wanting to be her, and it seem she’s not the example children need…Her racist poses, half naked photos, and the list goes on. If she want’s to act like a Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, or whatever, please take her off the Disney Network.

  22. Whoa • February 13, 2009 @ 11:24 AM

Wow you think Miley had this photo posted on her fan site and had a caption asking everyone to make fun of Asians???

This is ridiculous to say the least. I agree there should be a law to fine people for the greedy and frivolous lawsuits!!! Also the greedy lawyers that are willing to file these lawsuits need to be fined for this kind of rubbish.

I think this Lucie person needs to give their head a shake. I think I should file a suit against Ms. Kim for being greedy if she can file one against Miley for being racist. Is she suing the other people in this photo as well?

    It’s really sad, you know!

  23. mandee • February 13, 2009 @ 11:27 AM

haha in my post i said million, clearly i didnt read the story good enough to even KNOW what i was talking about! i still cant believe someone would resort to suing a CHILD ! Minerva i really enjoyed reading your post, and couldnt have agreed more…sab, if you took the time to realize this IS after all a 15 (or is she 16 now?) year old, she is STILL a child and children WILL make mistakes then perhaps you wouldnt be so quick to judge her. the half naked photos (if you are referring to the ones she took herself) her FRIENDS shouldnt have posted them online (or her ex, whoever did it THEY were the ones that were wrong in this situation) private photos like that should have been KEPT off the internet. or if youre talking about vanity fair, they probably convinced her by showing her some of their, or other magazines, front page where celebs were either nude (covered only by their own hands etc) or were dressed inappropriately and made her think that it was OK to wear only a sheet. (and it was stated already that her dad was not there and they made her grandmother wait in the hallway). kids are very easily convinced. i think she needs to stop apologizing so much for just being a teenager. plenty of teens act much worse than this, say and do worse things, and arent EVER expected to apologize to anyone, let alone the entire world, for doing what they think is fun or right. and i still stand by my statement that any little girl that watches disney channel, has no right to be online unsupervised in the first place…so if she wants to put nude pictures on the internet, there should never be any way that a YOUNG girl (or boy) could find it. anyway lol im going away for the weekend so have a great weekend and a great valentines day all !

  24. linda • February 13, 2009 @ 1:51 PM

I think some people should get a life. I don’t think those kids meant to offend anyone. There are more serious things in the world than this that should be focused on. World hunger, homeless people, cancer, etc.

  25. anonymously disgusted • February 13, 2009 @ 2:37 PM

Are all the other people in the photo being sued as well? Is this lucie woman going to scour the web looking for racist photos and sue the people in them. Is she suing the people who made the photos publicly available? Is she going to sue all the asians who get plastic surgery to remove the slants? If she does all that, then I “might” believe she is not out to just make a buck off of the sacred cow of racism.

  26. Tracy • February 13, 2009 @ 3:18 PM

my god everyone burn your old photo albums before we get sued!!!! what teenager HASN’T ever made faces on camera??????

  27. Nikki • February 13, 2009 @ 3:56 PM

One thing that’s really bothering me in the media these days, both this story and Michael Phelps, is the way they are being shamed with their supposed “role model” status. I think it’s great whenever someone, celebrity or not, does something extraordinary in their lives, but at the same time, let’s not forget they are human and will undoubtedly make mistakes too. Especially in these cases where they are both young and inexperienced with a lot the world has to offer, so mistakes are bound to be made. I think stating someone is a “role model”, who probably never signed up for this supposed role, puts them on a pedestal they are certain to fall from.

  28. Allison • February 13, 2009 @ 4:50 PM

I have to say..this is utterly ridiculous. I am NOT a fan of Miley Cyrus. But people do that all the time. I am caucasian and I live in a town where I would say has an 80% asian population now. (It wasn’t always like that though). My friends of other races, Black, Indian..etc, we make faces like that all the time in our town around the other chinese people. They don’t care, its not a big deal. I dont think thats racist at all. Yes, some may find it offensive..but clearly in Miley’s case she had a friend of asian decent in the picture and if he didn’t care..whats the big deal. Instead of fretting over these petty things we should be more concerned about the bigger things in life. Honestly..get over it!

  29. Nancy • February 13, 2009 @ 5:34 PM

Hey, maybe all the stoners out there in the world can sue all the people in the photo…cause they are all squinting their eyes like stoners…damn stoner racists! There oughta be a law! 😛

  30. KC • February 13, 2009 @ 6:20 PM

The most popular cosmetic surgery in the world right now is “eye rounding”, where people with elongated eyes get the skin reshaped to appear more round.

How is this any different, except that Miley’s change was not permanent. Relax, everyone, and just laugh!

  31. athena_sarah • February 13, 2009 @ 9:06 PM

I don’t understand why they are creating problems to Miley each week..May be she becomes the new Britney Spears?…It seems to be a joke, but it’s real, they just want to oblige her to give them money…hope she’ll resist!

  32. A • February 13, 2009 @ 9:17 PM

i think that the attempt by that woman to sue Miley is absolutely ridiculous. She is just another good for nothing greedy fool trying to make a big deal out of nothing. Sure Miley did something thats unorthodox and potentially insulting..but she is a young star..not one who is older with experience..still a child growing up. that woman taking action for four billion dollars hopefully never ever gets it because greedy idiots like her deserve nothing but the worst because she is only in it for the money and claims to be hurt. she would never have known had the picture never gotten out but there are tons of comedians who make racist jokes..why not sue them? because she is a greedy fool lacking any sense and wants money to grow on a tree for her. absolutely pathetic

  33. A • February 13, 2009 @ 9:19 PM

and further to which the only civil right i think she violated would be my personal right not to be embarrased by the idiotic weak attempts uninformed and uneducated jerkoffs like her do to embarrass other americans and human beings as a whole

  34. Me • February 13, 2009 @ 10:23 PM

Give me a break. Has Ms. Kim had these alleged 1 million people all approach her asking her to represent them? Is she going to distribute the $4million to each and every one of them?

I am half asian, my mom’s side is full asian, my husband is half asian and his dad’s side is full and non of us were offended. It is truly a sad day when people can get sued for something as lame as that but hey some woman in the US won a suit against McDonalds because she spilled her hot coffee on herself while driving…..

    Give the girl a break!

  37. DD • February 14, 2009 @ 11:09 AM

Well that is just stupid. It’s just greed.

  38. you ppl are stupid • February 14, 2009 @ 1:24 PM

I think you ppl are totally missing the pt. yes, it is a little far-fetched for this lucie kim to sue and that actually brings miley more plusses to her side, but for you morons to argue that “was not a racist move at all. everybody has done that at some point in there lives , i myself as a kid did it many times, yet Ive dated several Asian woman , and they thought it was funny” is the stupidest argument I’ve ever heard of. nat, are you some kind of lesbo? if ppl down in the south spat on and hurled insults (or worse) at blacks, which they did at one time in history, would that make it a non-racist action? because back in the day, racism against blacks was widespread and white ppl thought they could do whatever they wanted since that was the flavour of the day. and who was the idiot who argues that “no one died” so that miley’s actions are kosher? I hope you get beaten to a pulp for being ugly and are left hanging by the thread of a hair so that the person who inflicts this on you can get off scott-free since well, you didn’t die~ to say that her pictures of her private time are her business is also weak–while this is true in the lives of average people (ie, non-celebs!) this is something that ppl in the public eye need to understand and live with and is the price of heir fame: they are constantly being watched and everything they do makes news (this situation alone was planted to get this kind of reaction) so they have to live their lives accordingly. and this is the kind of life that the public has created–the celebrity status! think about the michael phelps situation: his “private” pics of smoking up on a mega-bong and grabbing strippers’ asses in vegas clubs ended up on the ‘net and tarnished his image! what’s the big deal?? personally, I think that is a far less harmful image than miley pulling her eyes as he truly IS NOT hurting anyone, just having a good time. she is a huge influence on kids in a different scale and function than phelps, so she should watch her actions and how they would be construed.
as for nat’s white-washed asian girlfriends: they’re dumb for having dated him/her in the first place, but also, a lot of non-white ppl go thru a large part of their lives in self-hate mode, and this is something created by a white society. I am so sick and tired of hearing white ppl give their 2 cents about racism–if they’ve never been anything but white, how can they know what it feels like? the most they can do is *imagine* or *guess* BUT they can never truly FEEL what it is like. just like an asian person can never know what a black person goes through and I think of all the races, they suffer a lot but then there is a time and place for everything; playing the race card unreasonably will not get you any pts, which is the case of this lucie fool. ‘only in america’ is right: if the US weren’t so full of rejects and so quick to award everyone with super-star status for retarded behaviour (hello, jeffrey dahmer became famous and had trading cards in his honour–what’s that saying??), then ppl like Lucie wouldn’t even think to stoop to this! wake up ppl~ and why do they have such forums like this–I don’t want to read about your sad lack of thoughts–I am disturbed by the very idea that ppl as dumb as many of you are alive and walking the streets. and then it angers me that I have to spend the time settin’ y’all straight!!
Minverva: I dare you to approach a random african-american on the street with your lips peeled back and your ass sticking out. I’d love to see your dumb ass get kicked–what is this ‘imitation is the best form of flattery’?? I don’t think this is a situation where it was meant to be applied.
and as for the fool who says what’s the big deal, implying ‘it’s our bodies, we can do what we want’: how bout if I wanna go flashing myself in the middle of the night at bus stops where women are waiting by themselves? it’s my body and I’m not hurting anyone? come on, people–GET A LIFE and stop making me mad.

  39. you ppl are stupid • February 14, 2009 @ 1:27 PM

..to finish off, miley probably did not intend for her actions to be interpreted that way and I would not say she is a racist (tho I don’t know her personally), she should have been more careful. and who are you people to decide what is racist or not? by how much YOU are offended? what ever happened to sticking up for one another?

  40. Tammi • February 14, 2009 @ 2:51 PM

It is all greed. I got pictures of me doing this when I was 16. Not a racist thing!? A joke! Is it because I am not famous that I wasn’t sued? Probably…lol…. Guess you gotta be poor to get away with a little joke or two……Jezzzzz…..glad I am poor! 4 Billion? WTF. So if she stuck her finger in her mouth to emply she was gonna throw up like most kids….is she making a racist comment about someone with bulimia? my god people….It’s not like she said the “N” word you know?

Racist pose or not, she was too young to take any kind of responsibility. An apology would be more that enough.

To you ppl are stupid. Hey…..waddah maddah witchu man??? Yo sooo uptight!! You just gave a great demonstration of how racism materializes. Peeps like you are soooo ready to jump and take offense at every little thing said and done and make a huge issue out of it. The problem with most people today is that we’ve not learned that we need to be able to laugh at ourselves. The girl was stretching her eyes to try to be funny. It was just a joke in bad taste, nothing more. Certainly nothing that would prompt the ramblings of the on and on and on that you just did about it. But hey….we’re all just stupid people, what the heck would we know. One would have to be as smart as you to see the light. Too bad you wasted so much time and energy on such a long ranting post, as nobody that’s white here had the intelligence to understand anything you had to say…..darn shame.

That’s why your banks fail, ppl get away with greed and being racist rofl. Put them in a ring and let them fight it out and put it on spike tv and everyone can eat pork grinds, drink beer and watch sexy commercials. For all those that think this is ok, we know your a racist inside, and for those that think it’s ok to sue, go find a job.

  49. Nancy • February 16, 2009 @ 2:21 PM

Well, I think the photo is ok, and I’m not a “racist inside”; the banks haven’t failed; it’s pork ‘rinds’, and..”sexy commercials”..????

  50. about time • February 16, 2009 @ 7:37 PM

The photo is not ok, that is why she apologized I believed. Also that is why a asian american is making it known that it is not ok. I would hope you teach your children not to make that racist look with the eyes. I know you are more educated than that, going by your lovely english and spelling. Young and carefree, live and learn etc. Here is a complete list of failed banks in case you were hiding under a rock. http://www.fdic.gov/bank/individual/failed/banklist.html

You are correct it is Pork Rinds, all these years I swore it was Grinds. Terrible mistake. I think there’s 47 other posts you can edit and correct also…I’m hoping I didn’t touch a nerve by making you realize something you maybe inside, hence the desire to correct my post? The post was mearly a comment, apologies if I have touched a nerve. Love.

I dare you to make that face in chinatown, if Miley had coloured herself brown and shown eating fried chicken is that any different? What if she put a red dot on her forehead and made a praying stance. I think you get my point. I’m sure someone will beat you up silly, if you tried the above in a) chinatown b) harlam and c) india

  52. demigod • February 16, 2009 @ 9:10 PM

about time..true racism is showing some kind of prejudice/discrimination towards another race ie. judging someone’s character or capabilities solely based on skin color and/or background.
Stretching your eyes back, mimicking an asian appearance doesn’t fall into this category. But it is insulting to most. Insulting,or making fun of a race’s appearance is not nice, but doesn’t necessarily mean they have racist views.
    Btw, that’s ‘harlem’ 🙂

  53. Nancy • February 16, 2009 @ 9:52 PM

Well, I think I may “touch a nerve” by telling you AGAIN that I am NOT racist, inside or out, but it is clowns like you and Ms. Kim who come along and cause BS between the races and just like to keep it going. Certain people aren’t happy unless they can keep crying “racism racism” over and over. Every little thing that goes wrong in their lives is “Whaa, it’s racism!” For instance, there are ‘some’, I repeat ‘some’ (as in NOT all) black people who run around calling each other the ‘N’ word, but yet, if a white person says that exact same word, in the same tone (not meaning it in a rude way), it’s being racist…?? Like I said above, the photo looked more to me like they were squinting their eyes like stoners. Have you ever seen some of the people in Africa who put white paint on their faces? Do us whites cry “racism”? When our soldiers colour their faces as camouflage for combat, does our government get sued for racism? All these other nationalities have it so good when they come to OUR country and then all some of them do is sit and whine about it! It sickens me…truly it does.

  54. about time • February 16, 2009 @ 10:04 PM

I’ve always been brought up not to do that, I suppose I have different views and beliefs. I can see how people get upset and label people as racist even though they are just being ignorant, naive and insulting. (I hope my spelling is perfect this time and there’s no more typos) lol 🙂

The whole eye thing is pretty sensitive, same thing happened with the spanish basketball team while taking a picture for the Beijing games. There was a outcry also, http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/Story?id=5563668&page=1

“It’s a racially pejorative pose not often associated with goodwill in the United States and many other countries, where a similar gesture is more likely to be seen on a school playground than coming from Olympic statesman.”

“It’s something that I haven’t seen since I was a kid,” said Sarah Smith, a spokesman for the Organization of Chinese Americans in Washington, D.C. “I can’t speak for what is considered funny in Spain. I don’t know if it has the same impact that it would here. It’s clearly racist, and not even in a jovial way.”

Who am I to argue with ABC News lol 🙂

ABBADON on February 14, 2009 4:24 pm HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that was lame dude. and nancy, great post 🙂

  57. about time • February 16, 2009 @ 10:21 PM

Are you native indian Nancy? 🙂 if so this is YOUR country, if not you are also a immigrant. I believe Kim lives in the United States? Did you migrate to United States like she did also or did you migrate to Canada? 🙂

Statements like YOUR country only sends the wrong signal…

  58. Nancy • February 16, 2009 @ 10:22 PM

Hey, I’ll be the first to stand up and say that I don’t like racism. True, hateful racism. BUT, I’ll be damned if I will just sit by quietly and watch MY government make US change to suit other nationalities! I’d rather see each and every one of the other nationalities deported before having to change all the things we do and believe in…our national anthem being one of those things!!

  59. demigod • February 16, 2009 @ 10:34 PM

nancy, I think you’re losing it.
The squinting is just another way of mimicking an asian. We all realize what they were portraying in that photo.
Tribes in Africa who put on white face paint have a cultural, ceremonial or religious significance. They are NOT mimicking white people! And soldiers colouring their faces for camouflage..I’m not even going to address that one. That is downright silly.

  60. about time • February 16, 2009 @ 10:40 PM

Nobody is asking you to make changes or lose our national anthem? I thought we were discussing if slanting eyes was racist etc. Also why would you want to deport other folks? Didn’t the Germans try that with the Jewish people? Our economy depends on many other nationalities, that is why makes Canada unique and special?

  61. Nancy • February 16, 2009 @ 11:01 PM

I don’t WANT to deport anyone, that’s my point! Demigod, the photo is proof that Miley has at least one asian friend. I see no racism whatsoever involved. I also feel that Miley should not have apologized for this photo either. It’s not like they tied the asian guy up and held a gun to his head. Who knows for sure what they were portraying because only Miley and one other person were pulling the skin around their eyes…the others were squinting, not pulling. Now, to you ‘about time’, suing for pulling the skin around our eyes is trying to change us! It is harmless fun that children have enjoyed for many years here in Canada, in the US and probably many other countries. Canada is unique and special because we allow other nationalities to come here for opportunities they wouldn’t be able to have in their home country, and that is great BUT, then there are some who want to try to make Canada more like their home country…which is why I brought up that one example of trying to change our national anthem. Of course, I could give another example…suing people for pulling the skin to slant their eyes!!

  62. about time • February 16, 2009 @ 11:22 PM

You should evalulate what is fun and realize it is very hurtful to that group/person. It creates isolation and makes one feel not welcome, different and belittled. Is this how you welcome people into your country by making fun of them infront of other people for being different?

Like tributegirl said, she’s a kid and probably didn’t know any better, she’s young and now i’m sure she learned a valuable lesson. It’s great to laugh and be young/old, as long as it is not at the cost of someone else.

  63. mandee • February 16, 2009 @ 11:44 PM

about time – that last post was very well stated. im glad that i had the pleasure to read that. but i do not think any child would mean to be racist, nor do i believe anyone really honestly took offense to this photo. if they did, she apologized. well, i am not racist by any means, but i read someone saying (on another gossip site) :

how come no one is suing the asian guy when he is the only one with round looking eyes in this picture? if its ok for miley to be sued and accused of being racist for slanting her eyes, why is it not ok for caucasian people to be offended and sue/accuse HIM of making fun of us because he opened his eyes as wide as he could to look like the only non-asian in this photo?

now, if you do not see a problem with him doing THAT dont you think youre being not only hypocritical but ALSO racist yourself?

  64. about time • February 17, 2009 @ 1:03 AM

I’m sure everyone in the photo has received racial sensitivity training. Put yourself in the shoes of a person being mocked or made fun of based on race/religon in a foreign country, lets see how you like it 🙂

If you were black and a bunch of white kids called you names or laughed at you because of your different skin colour, i’m sure you wouldn’t like it. Pulling eyes back and slanting them is no different, for today’s day and age you would think people would know better. Miley represents a icon for many millions of children, it is in everyones best interest if she set a positive example and not create these kinds of controversy that spawns hate. It lacks taste and class.

How do you think these people feel in the photos? I’m sure they feel embarrased and rightly so, they have been caught for doing something they should not have been doing.

If this is ok, why don’t you take a picture and post it up and do that to a waiter that serves you your sweet and sour chicken balls, let’s see how sweet your food is lol

  65. Nancy • February 17, 2009 @ 1:46 AM

Well, the way I see it is that it’s pretty funny that it is ONLY called “racism” when it is said or done by a ‘white person’. Need I mention again that only 2 people in the photo slanted their eyes & the rest just squinted…which is a normal thing for us “non-asians” to do, you know. I think anyone who agrees with any portion of this photo being racism is making mountains out of mole hills. Like a few others mentioned earlier, there are bigger issues in the world rather than people coming here saying “oh, shame shame…you slanted your eyes!”

  66. mandee • February 17, 2009 @ 2:37 AM

i dont actually see any racism in this picture at all, i was just pointing out for everyone that is so quick to call miley racist, what about the boy who is making his eyes round to “mock” caucasians? cant he be considered racist as well? i think that this entire racism thing is getting completely out of hand when children cant act their age or it causes a big problem…not EVERYTHING is a race issue! and i think anyone that would compare slanting your eyes to slavery is an idiot. slanting your eyes does not physically hurt anyone, so the statement about beating up someone and spitting on them etc, was just uncalled for. if people are going to accuse miley of being racist, perhaps they should look at the rest of the picture, if shes racist, then surely they are ALL racist because they are all doing something with their eyes that is different from how their eyes actually look. i cant believe people made this into such a big debate lmfao it kills me. 🙂

  67. tributegirl • February 17, 2009 @ 9:30 AM

My God! She is just a kid, just having some good, clean, INNOCENT fun! She wasn’t mocking or making fun of anyone, she was just playing around with her friends! And now all of North America is in a total uproar? Get a grip! This was NOT racism in any way, shape, or form. This “action” did not hurt anyone, all it did was get the attention of someone who has been just sitting and waiting for an opportunity to get her name in the paper and to win in court a huge amount of money that she doesn’t deserve. I hope the judge has her charged with wasting court time and money!
I do not like Miley at all, but I definitely believe that she did nothing wrong here, I wonder how many people are angry about this just because they don’t like her?
Btw, I am caucasian, and consider myself a native to this country, as I was born here, I did not “migrate” anywhere. I find it offensive that anyone would consider Canada to NOT be my country as I am not “native indian”. Hmmmm, maybe I should sue…..

  68. Nancy • February 17, 2009 @ 10:36 AM

When I awoke early this morning, I rubbed my eyes and it kind of stretched the skin down and outward…I hope I don’t get sued today! 😛

  69. tributegirl • February 18, 2009 @ 6:41 PM

Yikes, there is no picture for proof, is there??? You could be in DEEP doo-doo!
Oops, I hope I didn’t offend anyone who wades in doo-doo! My sincerest apologies!

  70. Maria Brito • February 20, 2009 @ 11:36 AM

I think this is disgusting, when people hear that someone has money they don’t know what to do but to find something wrong on that person just to accuse them of anything to try to get money from them… You want money go work for it!! Just look at it as are you 100%perfect of course not just leave her alone. Alo of jealous people out there that can’t stand a young person being well off and also remember she works hard for her money. Too bad not everyone has a talent like her. LEAVE HER ALONE

  71. chelsea • February 25, 2009 @ 1:34 PM

i think that just cos miley pulled that face she shouldnt be sued every one pulls that face even my mum pulls them faces now people take thing to seriously i dont see the point i bet kim pulled that face when she was youngeri think its just dumb

  72. A. Smith • February 26, 2009 @ 12:49 PM

What a joke. $4 billion? There’s a term for that: frivolous lawsuit.

There’s no way imaginable that Kim can justify $4 billion worth of damages resultant from this photo. The average amount of damage from someone ‘offended’ when looking at that photo: “Hey! That’s not cool…”

Expect to see more of these foolish attempts at making money throughout this recession. People will try anything.
