The Hunchback of Notre Dame

In The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923), we meet Quasimodo (Charles Laughton), a bell ringer at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. Deaf due to the loud, ringing bells, and half-blind from a giant wart that deformed one eye, he’s often described as an ugly creation of the devil. He was born with a severe hunchback and shortly after birth, Quasimodo was taken to Paris, where he was abandoned. Adopted, he was raised to be the Cathedral bell ringer, but his life takes a turn for the worse when his master forces him to kidnap a gypsy girl named Esmeralda.
