When Calls the Heart actress on life support after fall

Mamie Laverock, 19, who plays Rosaleen on the hit Hallmark Channel / Netflix series When Calls the Heart, suffered a medical emergency on May 11, 2024 in Winnipeg and was rushed to the hospital.
The Canadian actress was later transferred to a hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she was in intensive care. Unfortunately, on May 26 she fell five stories while being “escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway,” according to a GoFundMe page set up by her family.
The page goes on to read, “She sustained life threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support. We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time.”
Mamie’s other credits include the 2012 Hollywood film This Means War starring Reese Witherspoon, a guest appearance on the Netflix TV show A Series of Unfortunate Events and the 2020 TV movie Spotlight on Christmas.
Erin Krakow, the star of When Calls the Heart, posted a photo of Mamie with a link to the GoFundMe page on Instagram, saying “I just donated. If you have the means to do so, I hope you will too.” ~Alexandra Heilbron

What a shame, such a young life with a future ahead of her. The story sounds kinda hokey though. And I’m not sure why a GoFundMe would be started for her when I’m quite sure her family will sue that hospital for its last dime for this. Crazy. Wait for more clear details before donating as it all sounds very sketchy at best.

I may be way off base, but a medical emergency – suicide attempt possibly? And then being escorted on an outdoor walkway, why would you need to be escorted unless you’re suicidal. Possibly she jumped. Unless she was on a stretcher and it flipped, but why would staff take a stretcher on a walkway where it’s open and you can fall from it? At any rate, I hope she’s going to be okay, she must be going through hell right now.
I agree with Terry on this story. I wish this young actress nothing but the best and hope she makes a full recovery. But it is very strange how this was written up. What was she in the hospital for in the first place other than a “medical emergency”? This could be anything minor and then it turns into a horror story for this young lady. What the hell happened at that time?? Weird!!

I think a “go fund me” page is so inappropriate since she’s covered by OHIP as a Cdn and benefits under her union?
Good point, Sue. OHIP is for Ontario but B.C. does have an equivalent (as does every province). Also, they’ve already earned way more than $30K. But maybe it’s for aftercare, that might not be provided? Sometimes there are extra expenses that the government doesn’t cover.
