Three old friends -- Ray (Hoskins), Vic (Courtenay), and Lenny (Hemmings) -- set out on a journey to honour their dear friend Jack (Caine)'s "last orders": to have his ashes scattered off the pier at a seaside resort where he had planned to retire with his wife Amy (Mirren). Accompanied by Jack's son Vince (Winstone), the four men travel through beautiful landscapes and a series of pubs, looking back on their lives with humour and sadness.
Meanwhile, Amy goes on a journey of her own to visit the daughter whom Jack could never love.
Based on the Booker Prize-winning novel by Graham Swift.
